September
I can't believe September has already arrived. The boys and I have made it through another week on our own. We are getting in a pretty good routine and I have to brag that all three of our beds have even been made everyday for the past two weeks. This is a first for us, I have never really been one to make the beds unless I know company is coming but I have decided that was not a very good example for them. Is it four weeks for a habit to be formed? My job has been a real challenge lately. There are so many interesting things that happen through my profession. I have been a Funeral Director for 7 years now and just when I think I have seen everything I am surprised by yet another family. I know I could get endless blogging material from these encounters but I fear that I would compromise the confidence these families place in me. Today I spent two hours with a man who came in to "pre arrange" everything because he was planning to take his own life in the near future. I felt truly inadequate but tried to counsel him as best I could. He refused to take any crisis numbers I could provide him and would not allow me to make any phone calls on his behalf.

No time for blogging
Well I have discovered that this blogging thing takes alot of time and I can't seem to fit it into my schedule. What time I do have, I like to spend reading other peoples blogs rather than working on my own.
Things are going well. My oldest son turned 14 this weekend and decided to get into the whole paintball thing. This is quite an expensive past time and he far exceeded his birthday budget but he is playing with a group of boys mostly from his youth group at church and I figure if this will keep him occupied and I know who he is with and what he is doing it is well worth the investment. My Mom and my son share the same birthday so we had a great time meeting family for supper Saturday night. It was a long drive (2 1/2 hours one way) but worth it for them to celebrate together.

The farm grows bigger!
Well it has been a few days since my last post. I can't decide if my life is really so boring that I have nothing to say or if it all happens so fast I don't know what steps I have taken enough to write about them.
The weekend I will have to admit would have been a bore to anyone else but I enjoyed it thoroughly. Even though it was my weekend on call, I did not get paged a single time. I rented 6 movies from Blockbuster and got 4 1/2 of them watched. That's a good indication of just how lazy I was. Not only did I watch all those movies, I even managed to sneak a couple of naps in. Shannon did not make it home this weekend because of problems at the plant, otherwise I probably would have felt compelled to at least act like I was of some use.
Today, was very busy. I was up at 5:00, at the gym by 5:30, home at 6:30, got the boys up and we were in the van by 7:45. Dropped clothes off at the cleaners before work. Now..... the reason for my title. When I got to work this morning, the office manager walked in with 5 guinea pigs... and of all days to turn our office into a pet adoption center, we were having our BIG BOSS from Houston arrive at the airport at 10:20 am. Well guess who got volunteered to take all five guinea pigs home to hide them????? Three guesses, and the first two don't count. Well now that my boys have seen them, they think they both have to have one, and being the push over mother that I am, ( or could it be that I always feel so guilty because I work so much) I told them yes. So $65.00 later (cage and all the accessories) we are now proud Guinea Pig owners, names yet to be determined. The other three are anxiously awaiting loving homes if anyone is interested.
Sandy (the hamster) is now jailed in her new cage with bars ($35, I am going to have to get a second job to pay for all these cages), 3 nights past and she hasn't gotten out yet. I did find where she had been camping out during her escapes and she had made quite a comfortable little bungalow for herself. No wonder she was wanting out. I thing she had everything she needed in there with the exception of cable TV.
Well once the piglets were all settled in, hiding out at my house, its back to work, I had a 2 PM funeral, picked Blake up from school by 3:30, brought him home, went back to work, picked up Quent from football by 5:15, made supper and then had to go to an open house at the Jr. High from 6:30 to 8 PM. Whew, it is 11 now and I am loosing steam and this will all begin again tomorrow at 5 AM. I think I'll hit the hay.

The Capture
Well, I have just captured Sandy once again and I have used nearly a whole roll of masking tape to secure anything that could possibly move on that cage. If she is still there in the morning, I shall venture down to the local Petsmart tomorrow and get a new cage, if she escapes again, I don't see any point in spending the money because this will tell me that she has some kind of secret powers.

My first post
Well this will be my first post on my new blog. As usual I am a little behind the times and have just now discovered the blog world. My life is very busy and I am hoping stopping to make note of some happenings will help me collect my thoughts.
School is back in full swing as of yesterday and thank goodness work is slow right now so I can rev up to speed slowly. I had lunch with my youngest son, Blake on his first day and Quentin my oldest, had me make several trips to the Junior High to take things he had forgotten for football practice. Had they been things for his regular classes he would not have worried about them. Back to school is always like another new year in our house. Lots of resolutions mostly on my part, the boys just go along with me knowing from experience that all my "schedules" will go out the window in time. It is tough doing this all on my own. Shannon (my handsome hubbie!!) has been working out of town during the week for 6 months now and I never realized before how much I depend on him. Prayers continue to go up that his job here in Abilene will be restored.
I call this blog "Welcome to our funny farm" not only because of the craziness here but because of our host of animal friends that are such a part of our family. The boys both have steers that they show for 4-H (3 total), Cooter, Emmet and Tony, two golden retrievers (Katie and Frazier), my house dog, Sissy who is a sheltie, two cats, Beets and Chip, and an escape artist hamster, Sandy. Sandy gets out of her cage at least every other day and despite our many attempts to find where she is getting out, she always seems to find another way. I caught her last night about 11 (again), yet another thing I have learned to do, without screaming I might add, out of desperation since Shannons absence.
Well that is all for now, I hope to get better at this as I go.
